Four Benefits of Leasing a Car

When you’re looking to buy a car, you have three options available to you: buying a new car, buying a used car, or leasing a car. If you’ve forgotten about the “leasing” option, you’re not alone — most people tend to forget that their local car dealers usually offer this option.

Here are just a few points explaining why people choose to lease new cars, rather than purchasing new or a used cars:

  • First of all, when you lease a car, it’s a brand new car that hasn’t been owned by anyone before. Although new car dealers might offer better deals for leasing cars that aren’t the newest models, they’ll still have better safety features and more digital features than used cars will (plus, you still get to have that “new car smell” when you lease a car).

  • Leases on new cars tend to last about two to three years, and after this time period is up, you simply return the car back to the dealership, and you can choose to purchase another car, take out another lease, or — in some cases — keep your car, continue making payments on it, and end up buying the car that you’ve been leasing. The benefit here is that you get to try out different cars and see what you really like and what fits your lifestyle best — all the commitment-phobics out there will understand how much of a benefit this is.

  • The other advantage of only keeping a car for two or three years is that you won’t have to worry about making tons of repairs just to keep it running. Even though the average lifespan of a car is about 11 years, most cars start to need basic maintenance repairs after about two or three years anyway.

  • And finally, the argument that most people have against leasing a car: That you pay all this money for a car that you don’t get to keep. While this is true, there are a couple of things to remember here. First, you get to build up your credit and pick a flexible payment plan that works for your budget. Second, because dealers know that they’ll be getting the leased cars back and will have to re-sell them as used cars, they’re more likely to offer complimentary auto service and regular inspections to make sure that they’re getting the car back in the best possible condition.
