Lost your car key? You’re not alone. In fact, the average person loses up to nine items each day with cellphones, keys, and paperwork topping the list. According to a poll, one-third of respondents say they spend an average of 15 minutes every day looking for lost items.

So, what do you do if you’ve lost your car key?

First of all, there’s no need to panic. You may be able to locate it be retracing your steps and thinking about where you were that day. Of people who have lost their car key, 20% report that they lost their key at work, while 15% misplaced it while out shopping and 13% found that their keys were missing while visiting friends or family. If you can find your lost key by retracing your steps, great! You don’t need to take any further steps, but it may be helpful if you install a key hook near your door to prevent this from happening in the future.

So, you’ve looked everywhere and your lost car keys still haven’t turned up. Don’t despair! There’s one more place you can look – inside your car.
